Breta Matson has been fusing glass since 1986. Her studio lies in east San Diego county amid the Anza-Borrego desert. It's a spectacular setting, suitable for her artistic endeavors. Glass favors the warm desert air, and the flora and fauna catch her eye daily-whether she is cutting and shaping glass to create a coyote, the desert sky, a beautiful set of tableware or even a fused-glass bathroom sink- Breta welcomes the influence of nature into her designs.
Breta was born August 1st, 1961, a native of the Pacific northwest. She began her career with stained glass at the Oregon School of Art and Craft and discovered the unlimited possibilites of glass fusing in 1986, back before computer controlled kilns, when the kiln required venting by hand. She has studied under such notables as Richard Lalonde and Ruth Brockman.
